Snuggles the Penguin

Snuggles was the first amigurumi that I started.  I assumed correctly that he wouldn't be too difficult to try.  I put him aside and moved onto the mobile animals.  I have been working on him here and there and now he is

Safety Eyes Arrived

My safety eyes arrived!  My safety eyes arrived!  Yay!
I ordered 25 pairs of 9 mm black eyes, 25 pairs of 6 mm black eyes and 10 pair of coloured cat eyes.  I ordered from Etsy at a shop called 6060 came from Maryland from a lady affectionately known as "the eye lady".  They took less than a week to arrive. :)
Look at that one orange eye staring up at me all cyclops-like.

Oh the fun I will have with so many eyes!

Amigurumi Octopus: Purple

I have started the octopus Sept 17.
I really like the grape purple colour.

Again the octopus was waiting for my safety eye delivery.

Amigurumi Frog: Kelly green

This is the first amigurumi I have started for the mobile (started Sept 16).  I have made the general shape and lightly stuffed it but I am waiting for my shipment of small safety eyes to close the frog body up.
Hopefully the eyes will be here soon.

Amigurumi Baby Mobile

If you have been reading my blog for a little while you will know that I do get distracted from my projects pretty easily.  : )  My Eyelet sweater has been put on hold for a really cute project...

I have been challenged to make a mobile out of amigurumi animals for a friend that is due in December.  (If you want to learn more about amigurumi check out this site.)  I have been following Stephanie's amigurumi work for some time now but never attempted it.

I have started making an aqua penguin and a light green dragon to see how they go.  I bought a size 2 mm hook with a handle on it.  I would highly recommend getting one with a handle.  Makes holding such a small hook much easier!

I am so excited to get started on this project.
The patterns I will be following are from the Lion Brand website (pattern numbers are below).  However, I have decided not to use the yarn or hook size mentioned in these patterns.  Instead I am using a size 2 mm hook and Patons Grace yarns.  This should make them turn out mobile sized instead of small toy sized (I hope).

 Elephant  #70582AD
Penguin #70583AD
Pig #70589AD
Octopus # 70588AD

Here is a simple view of my colour palette:

I have some cute ideas for stringing them up on the mobile too.  Stay tuned.

Would you like to see progress on the Eyelet?

Have you made something with a diamond eyelet pattern?   It may not be a wrap... it could be a blanket or a lined skirt.  I am on my second ball of yarn. I really hope it fits when I am done.

Here is my progress so far.

Too bad things like jobs and eating get in the way of crocheting.

Diamond Eyelet Wrap Sweater

I was gifted a pattern for a lovely wrap quite a while ago.  I have not made a wrap before but I do love the detail of the diamond eyelets... they are so special. This pattern is really easy to follow once you have gotten thorough it a few times (Rows 2-7 are repeated a lot!).   The yarn used is Patons Canadiana in Violet Mist.  I got the yarn a while ago and was saving it for a special project.  It has a small amount of sheen to it.

If you would like to get your own copy here is the link:
Diamond Eyelet Wrap Sweater by Crochet Spot.

I am really enjoying it.  Once in a while I just have to look at the pattern to see what I do with the end and beginning of each row.  But so far, so good!

You just keep crocheting it really long then it gets wrapped around your body and sew a few edges together.  I am looking forward to that part.  :)
Crochet Spot is also offering a Crochet Along soon. I may have to see how many projects I have on the go before I commit.

Blog Directory

Wow!  A "Blog Directory" for crochet and amigurumi what a great idea.  Stephanie of All About Ami decided to put together a directory of fellow crocheters.  It is really nice to see so many people in the world coming together in a common craft.  I am very excited to be listed in the directory.   :)  Check it out here.
I better get making some stuff so people have something to read here on my blog... do the rest of you feel a summer slow down?  I find it more appealing to play with yarn in the winter.  I guess with the nice weather of the summer here in Ottawa I just want to be outside.  I suppose also settling into our new house has taken a good portion of my time.

Saturday Bibs

Saturday morning I woke up nice and early.  I was up and expecting company at 10... 4 hours away.
I got my phone and started to get caught up on my blog reading.
I got to this blog and had to get out of bed and make a bib.
You can find the pattern here.  I used a pastel multi-coloured yarn and used a rose pink for the boarder.  It was very easy to make.  I made it for a sweet new baby (two months old) that came to visit on Saturday.  Now having company coming, I had some work to do to get ready... so I forgot to take a picture of the bib.  Not to worry I will get another one done really soon.
Keep hooking!

Sleepy Owl

Sorry I have been quiet for a little while.  Getting into a normal routine in a whole new house has proved challenging.
I had the pleasure of meeting the little babies that my hats have been for.  (My friend's nephews).  They are such adorable little boys. This hat is so sweet.
I can't wait to see it on new baby H.

I wondered what an owl would look like in an owl hat.  :)  This is my owl decoy to try and keep the birds out of my pool.  (By the way it did not really work at keeping the birds away)

Dish cloths

A staple of my gift-giving are dish cloths.  I have found a really great pattern that I enjoy making for a thick dishcloth that has lots of grooves so it can pick up lots of stuff while wiping counters or cleaning the dishes.  They are quick and easy to whip up.

Baby Hats, Diaper Cover and Some Booties

My friend asked me if I could make some baby hats for her nephew on the way.  So we picked some super cute patterns and yarn and I got to work.
She wanted a giraffe hat, diaper cover and matching hat for big brother. She also wanted a sleeping owl hat for new baby.
I was so excited for this cute project that I got started right away.
The first baby hat and diaper cover were done quickly.  I snuck in some baby booties to matched the giraffe colours.  However, I forgot to take a picture of the booties.  :(

The other hats are on their way.
