As a giraffe might say, "You won't get any leaves unless you stick you neck out"

My giraffe has feet, a tail and spots.  He has a long neck and is very friendly.

I had to make the head twice since this was a pattern written by a lady which I had never followed her patterns before.  Once I understood her way of writing a pattern I was happy to make the head again.

This guy quickly became popular in my office.  Apparently I work with many giraffe lovers!  I may have to make more.

Sock Monkey, Bert

K really liked her sock monkey and hat. She named him Bert.
So nice to see a creation being loved. :)  Here is how Sock Monkey Bert started.

So I was working on my monkey...

Well I guess I should really start back in the summer.  It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining bright and it was definitely pool weather.  I went over to my in laws to swim while the men were working on the deck.  My niece was there (she is 8) and so we swam together and she was reading a story to herself while I crocheted.  She asked if I could make something for her... so that is how Rariyo came to be.

I made him for her while she was reading.

She asked if I could make her a sock monkey.  I didn't know how to make a sock monkey but told her that I would try to figure it out.  4 months later a sock monkey has emerged.  I recently found a really nice pattern with Patons (its free to sign up) and I have been working on the sock monkey.  A sock monkey toque has also happened, you know... as a companion to the sock monkey.

So I was working on my monkey...  on the bus today (I wonder what my bus patrons think of me) and realized I forgot to put the safety eyes on before closing up his head.  Luckily I had not cut the string off yet, so I untied his head and got those really cool eyes in!  Yay!

Shhh don't tell her, these will be her Christmas presents!

Toques, Toques and more Toques

The first projects I finished was a toque.  I made a toque for myself,
For my husband (he is not much of a hat guy, but in the super cold winter if he remembers he has it, it might get worn),

and then one for my friend/coworker Sherry at Papertician.  She got some cute little buttons, all in purple to make it pretty.

I was on a toque frenzy.

Mary Poppins Purse

Crochet projects go with me everywhere; on the bus, in the car, waiting at appointments, on the couch or at friends houses.  I have a Mary Poppins Purse that i have reserved just for crocheting so it's constantly filled with yarn, patterns, hooks, scissors, stuffing, buttons and all sorts of odds and ends.
Taa Daa, the purse:
I really like it since it have two pockets on the front.  I normally have the hook for my current project in the pocket on the left (possibly more than one) and my phone, earphones and bus pass in the pocket on the right.  This way my phone does not get scratched by crochet hooks but everything has it's place.

Welcome!

Hello wonderful world of blogging.  This is my first blog.  How exciting!  I thought I would try blogging to share my love for the craft of crochet.  I learned to crochet in October of 2011.

Before October

I thought yarn crafts were not for me.  I did not understand why anyone would want to take a piece of yarn and make it into something else.

After October

I don't know how to stop myself from crocheting.  It has become a lifestyle, it has grown my patients and it has definitely given my mind a workout.  Now I crochet everywhere, on the bus, at work (on break), while watching tv, when I have to wait for someone, or while on a road trip (not driving).  I have a bag of works-in-progress with me at just about all times. Oh, the addiction is strong!
